Title: Is She Worth Loving?
Level: 4
Is She Worth Loving?
My partner and I created this short script for part 3 of this course. I think it is a cute story about love and teenagers worth developing into a play.
Synopsis
The sketches show story of a teenager feeling miserable because his girlfriend has broken up with him. He doesn’t feel like doing anything despite the fact that his friends at school are trying anything to cheer him up. At the end, the teenage couple has a conversation and things get resolved.
Setting: The play is set at school in the canteen, during the break.
Characters: Steve, Julia, Tom, Claire and Anne.
Character Objectives:
Steve – He is a depressed teenager who thinks he is about to die after his girlfriend Julie broke up with him. He is completely distressed by what he is experiencing: feeling love-sick after his first love.
Julia – Steve’s ex-girlfriend who split up with him because she is confused. She would like to be with someone romantic, charming, creative, imaginative, good-looking... Maybe she is just looking for her ideal blue prince, who might not exist in reality!
Claire, Tom and Anne – Steve’s friends at school, who listen to him and try to cheer him up without much success.
Class Preparation:
Divide the class into groups of five and have them read and practice the original script extract. Then, each group will read the play and the class will decide which group will finally act it out: the best group. If the winner group has a high level of English and they agree, they could make little changes in the original script, such us changing some of the vocabulary or adding some lines. The rest of the groups will be in charge of deciding about the wardrobe, the stage scenery, the music, the lights, holding subtitles or any other aid for the audience to understand etc. The play will be performed for the whole school afterwards.
